The Seven Sacraments

Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism becomes the basis of our Christian life, the gateway to life in the Holy Spirit, and the door which allows us to experience the other sacraments of the church. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God. By being baptized, we become members of the Catholic Church and our parish family.

Confirmation

At Holy Family Cathedral, we celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation in the order in which God designed them to be given; Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist. It also restores the practice of administering the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist when they reach the age of reason. Children in second grade prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and begin going to Confession.

Children in third grade will prepare for Confirmation and First Eucharist and receive both Sacraments at the same Mass.

Eucharist

Children in second grade have been prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and begin going to Confession. Children in third grade will prepare for Confirmation and First Eucharist and receive both Sacraments at the same Mass.

Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Reconciliation offers the opportunity for a Catholic person to receive forgiveness for sins they have committed. God’s forgiveness has been offered thorough Jesus Christ and extended to His Church by priests asking the forgiveness of God upon a Catholic person. Jesus Christ began this Sacrament of Healing for all sinful members of his Church.

Holy Family Cathedral readily offers this sacrament each day prior to Masses as well as extended Confession times on Saturdays.

Anointing of the Sick

This sacrament is given to those who are seriously ill, who may be undergoing serious surgery, or in great need of God’s healing in their lives. If it is possible, the Sacrament of Reconciliation precedes this sacrament and is followed by the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

As a parish, we offer Anointing of the Sick during Mass on the third weekends of Advent and Lent. Additionally, our priests are available by appointment to offer this sacrament.

Marriage

Congratulations on your engagement! Thank you for your interest in celebrating your wedding at Holy Family Cathedral! In the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma there are many resources available to you to prepare for the sacrament of Marriage.

All weddings are on Saturdays outside the season of Lent. Weddings take place at 10:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 7:00 pm. Rehearsals are on Friday evenings at 5:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.

Holy Orders

Holy Orders is the Sacrament through which men receive from God the grace to perform the sacred duties Christ entrusted to His Church. The Twelve Apostles were the first priests and bishops of the Church. Through the ages men have been ordained as bishops and priests by the laying on of hands to continue the mission of Christ and His Church.
