First Reconciliation and First Communion Preparation

Holy Family Cathedral, Tulsa

Holy Family Faith Formation seeks to support parents as they share the Faith with their children. We will provide the necessary materials for each family to use at home. Our clergy, staff and volunteers will show you how to implement regular prayer and study in your home as well as answer your catechetical and practical questions. Additionally, we will assist you by offering incentives to children for their diligent participation.  Sacramental preparation classes meet twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month with a few exceptions due to holidays or school breaks. The first Sunday of the month parents and children will gather following the 10 am Mass.  Continental breakfast will be served in the Cathedral basement. After breakfast families will participate in formation classes in the school building.

At the first class, parents will receive a binder with a calendar of events and other relevant information. Any changes to the schedule will be emailed to parents. Bring the binder to each class throughout the year and receive a schedule for reading the materials, prayers and Bible verses to completed at home. Each child preparing for First Holy Communion will receive three books, although not all at once, and a tote bag for transporting materials to and from class.

Reception of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion is extra special. We have therefore included one retreat per sacrament to help make final preparation before each respectively. Fr. Kastl will interview each child during Lent to determine if they have reached the age of reason and are therefore ready to receive the sacraments.  The following requirements must be met in order to participate in our preparation program: registered parishioner of HFC; $25 registration fee per family; registration form (one per family); Youth Consent Form A (one per family); provide a Copy of Baptism certificate. Virtus training strongly encouraged for each parent. All forms can be found on the parish website.
