Father O’Brien announces two new parish youth ministers

Holy Family Cathedral announces the hiring of two new youth ministers: Alexus Nguyen and Sky Creed. These hires demonstrate a substantial commitment to serve the youth of our parish, especially as the Cathedral continues to grow.

Sky Creed: FIVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN YOUTH MINISTRY

Sky Creed is a 2019 graduate of Benedictine College with a BA in English and Evangelization & Catechesis with an emphasis on Youth Ministry.

For the last two years she has been the National Director of Totus Tuus working out of the Diocese of Wichita. Before that she was Coordinator of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Tulsa. She started her career as Director of Youth Formation at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Sky says, “I have worked in youth ministry professionally for the past five years, working particularly on providing moments of encounter with the person of Jesus Christ that draw young people into a deeper relationship with our Savior, whether it be through ministry nights, retreats, or serving their neighbor. I love giving opportunities to foster community for the youth between their peers, their parents and families, the parish community at large, and the universal church.”

Alexus Nguyen is the middle school youth minister. She comes to Holy Family with four years of experience in youth ministry having served at the Church of Saint Benedict in Broken Arrow and Christ the King in Tulsa. She says, “I was drawn to the Cathedral by the families, the community, and how the Holy Spirit is working through them.”

Alexus already has her first parish event scheduled, the middle school Youth Kickoff at 7:00 p.m. on October 9. She says that she is “most excited to share with the parish my servant heart and my ability to seek out and love others.”

Cathedral Rector Father Brian O’Brien says of Alexus, “Our growing and dynamic parish just got better. We have been searching for a couple of months, and our people deserve our best. Alexus and new high school youth minister Sky Creed are the right personnel in place to meet the needs of Holy Family Cathedral.”

Alexus has outlined her hopes for the parish, “My dream for middle school youth ministry at HFC is to encourage children and teens to strengthen their faith, to know who they are as children of God, and to continue to work to become better disciples of Christ.”
