Restored Order Sacraments: Reconciliation, Confirmation, First Communion

Registration for our 2024-2025 sacramental preparation year is now OPEN!

At Holy Family Cathedral Parish, we celebrate these sacraments in what is called the Restored Order. This approach offers the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist when they reach the age of reason. What that means is that children will now prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and begin going to Confession in Second Grade. The following year, they will prepare for Confirmation and First Eucharist and receive both Sacraments at the same Mass in Third Grade.

We utilize a family catechesis model to partner with you and your family during this sacramental formation year. Families work through curriculum at home with their children, and then participate in family formation nights alongside other families.

Step 1: Register

Register to begin the process. Sacramental Preparation Registration Form 2024-2025

Step 2: Obtain a Certificate of Baptism

A Certificate of Baptism is required. If your child was Baptized at Holy Family Cathedral, please contact the parish office at 918-582-6247 and be prepared to give an approximate date of Baptism so that your records may be retrieved. If you were Baptized at another parish, please contact that church and ask for official Baptismal records to be sent to Holy Family Cathedral. Please do not send electronic copies. Official records are required and must be submitted as part of your registration.

Step 3: Prepare for at-home Whole Family Catechesis

Pathways Faith Formation boxes support your family’s faith formation journey at home with several in-parish Family Sessions throughout the year. Attend the first at-parish session to pick up your Pathways box to begin preparing at home.

Step 4: Attend sessions at church

Attend the in-parish Family Sessions. At-parish sessions are held from 6 pm – 7:30 pm in the Auditorium. Parents must attend with their child who is preparing.

Step 5: Attend a Retreat

Parents and children receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist are required to attend a Confirmation & First Eucharist Retreat. Sponsors are highly encouraged to attend as we will also be practicing for the Mass.

Sponsors

Being a Sponsor is a lifelong commitment. A Sponsor takes on the role of a spiritual parent who “brings the candidate to receive the Sacrament, presents him to the minister for anointing, and will later help him to fulfill his Baptismal promises faithfully under the influence of the Holy Spirit.” (Rite of Confirmation 5)
